Grant Davidson

Dr. Grant Davidson received a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1987, where he conducted research in very low bit-rate speech compression using vector quantization and linear predictive coding.
Since 1987, Dr. Davidson has been a member of the Sound Technology Research Group at Dolby Laboratories, San Francisco, where his primary research focus is perceptual audio coding. He is co-developer of the Dolby Digital (AC-3), MPEG-2 Advanced Audio Coding (AAC), and Dolby E compression standards, and is a recipient of two Emmy Awards for this work. More recently, his research activities have broadened to include signal enhancement and spatial audio rendering technologies for mobile devices.
