Jon Bender has served as COO for SoundExchange since 2011, following 25 years of senior operating roles in the recorded music industry. At SoundExchange, he oversees the organization’s operational strategy and day-to-day business operations. SoundExchange is the world’s largest digital performance rights organization for sound recordings; in 2015, SoundExchange will distribute over $800 million in royalties to artists, labels and creative participants.
Prior to SoundExchange, Jon headed Operations at Concord Music Group, one of the world’s leading independent label groups. While there, he oversaw the development of Concord’s digital infrastructure to distribute Concord’s numerous recording catalogs. Jon joined Concord after many years at the Universal Music Group, where he played a similar role in transitioning UMG’s operations from analog to digital. At UMG, he oversaw the development and implementation of the music industry’s first e-commerce distribution infrastructure. Prior to his work at Universal, Jon worked at EMI in London where he was involved in setting up early digital distribution models.
