CHRISTOPHER J. STRUCK is the CEO and Chief Scientist of CJS Labs, an acoustics and audio consulting firm he founded in San Francisco. He is also the Standards Director of the Acoustical Society of America.
Mr. Struck holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. During this time, he also studied electronic music composition and musique concrète. Mr. Struck also attended Stanford University, where he studied Digital Signal Processing and participated in the Stanford Jazz Workshop. He completed the Stanford/AeA Executive Institute program and the Leadership Development Program at the Center for Creative Leadership.
Mr. Struck was employed by Brüel & Kjær, in Nærum, Denmark where he developed test instrumentation, including the Type 4128 Head and Torso Simulator and the Type 2012 Audio Analyzer. He was a Principal Consultant for Charles M. Salter Associates in San Francisco. Later, he was in the Research Group at ReSound in Redwood City, working on the development of analogue and digital hearing devices. He was Director of Engineering – Licensing at Dolby Laboratories where he oversaw encoder and decoder implementation licensing. He was Vice President of Engineering for Tymphany Corporation in Cupertino, California, where his team developed the Linear Array Transducer™.
Mr. Struck is the author of many technical papers, application notes and articles. During the course of his work, he has traveled extensively throughout the world providing training and lecturing on the topics of Acoustics, Electroacoustics, Telephonometry, Linear and Non-Linear System Analysis, Signal Processing, and Measurement Techniques. He is a Fellow and past Governor of the Audio Engineering Society, a Member of the Acoustical Society of America, and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He is Chair of the ANSI/ASA Subcommittee 3 on Bioacoustics, as well as Chair of Working Group S3-37 on Couplers and Ear Simulators and Working Group S3-67 on Manikins. He is a member of the ANSI S3-48 Working Group on Hearing Aid Measurements, the IEEE Subcommittee on Telephone Instrument Testing, and the AES SC-4-3 Working Group on Loudspeaker Modeling and Measurement. He was the Papers Co-Chair for the AES 121st Convention in San Francisco.
He is a guitarist and composer and enjoys both live and recorded music. Mr. Struck lives with his wife in San Francisco.
