Jon Boley

Jon Boley, Ph.D. is a research scientist at GN ReSound, where he designs psychoacoustic experiments to push the limits of tiny audio systems (hearing aids). His research involves sensory analysis, experimental design, psychoacoustic & neural modeling, electroacoustics, and signal processing.
He started out mixing front-of-house in high school & college, worked for a short time as a radio DJ (WNIU/WNIJ), then moved into digital signal processing... with a little studio recording/mixing on the side. He has a BS in Electrical Engineering (Univ of Illinois), an MS in Music Engineering (Univ of Miami), and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering (Purdue Univ). Jon started his career as a DSP engineer, working at Motorola and Shure, before switching his focus to psychoacoustics. He also co-founded LSB Audio, where he worked as a principal consultant for a wide variety of audio businesses while working on his dissertation. He joined GN ReSound in 2011.
Dr. Boley is a member of the Audio Engineering Society, the Acoustical Society of America, and is a senior member of IEEE. He has been a member of the Moving Picture Experts Group, and contributed to the MPEG Surround international standard. He founded the AES student section at the University of Illinois, has served as a past treasurer for the Chicago AES section, and serves on multiple AES technical committees. He also regularly reviews manuscripts for a variety of scientific journals, conferences, and book publishers.
