Gregory H. Watkins is an accomplished re-recording mixer, a member of the Cinema Audio Society, and a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. At age 20, while still attending the University of Southern California, he started his career in the film industry at MGM studios in 1977. His production experience began at the position of “cable man”. He learned many aspects of production sound before eventually moving into post-production. While still at MGM, he worked in many areas of the sound department, from production sound utility, recordist, Foley mixer, ADR mixer, and ultimately to a re-recording mixer. Some of his fondest memories were of the time he spent on the scoring stage. In 1995, Greg left the “old” MGM Lot, (by then, the ownership had changed many times, and it was known as the Sony Lot) to form his own company, Born to Dubb, Inc. This was a big change, seeing as Greg, now an independent mixer, had to rely solely on his own ability and reputation to further his employment. Greg has mixed over 140 films, many television shows, pilots, trailers, and video games. He does everything from editing and sound design, to mixing dialog, music and sound effects. He has been nominated for many awards and he even won an Academy Award for Best Sound on the feature “Dances with Wolves.” Greg is a firm believer that the most important commodity in getting a great sounding film is the crew you are working with. You can create a lot of magic with the right personnel.
In his spare time he loves spending time with his wife and three sons, either waterskiing, wakeboarding, going to football games, or riding Harley’s. He attends Freedom Church in Chatsworth CA, and is also a member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association.
