Jim Tanenbaum, CAS, has spent almost half a century recording production sound for features, television, documentaries, commercials, videogames, and news gathering. He worked on Avatar from 2007 until production wrapped in 2009, and 57 other features. He won an Emmy for the sound on Live from Baghdad, and received a Golden Reel and 3 other nominations for other shows. He designs and builds custom sound recording equipment for himself and other mixers.

Jim has taught sound at UCLA since 1988, and also at USC, Art Center of Design, and LACC. In 1995, he was invited to Japan to participate in an international symposium on production recording. In 2010 and 2011, he represented American sound equipment manufacturers at BIRTV in China, demonstrating their products and educating local sound mixers in Beijing and other cities. In 2012, he spent 6 weeks training VTV audio engineers throughout Vietnam. In addition to teaching, he writes technical manuals and articles for trade magazines.

Jim is currently recording performance-capture videogames, and recently finished the first season of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge for The SyFy Channel.
