Kerpel’s professional music career started in Argentina in 1970 at the age of 17, playing guitar with several bands and later keyboards with the band Crucis until 1978 when he moved to the US. In 1979, he joined Gustavo Santaolalla and founded the New Wave band Wet Picnic. He has since worked alongside Santaolalla; having won 14 Latin and American Grammy's for his work with Café Tacuba, Juanes and Bajofondo. He has also co-produced critical and commercial successes for million-selling Mexican group Molotov, as well as Los Prisioneros, Julieta Venegas, Maldita Vecindad, León Gieco, Divididos and Bersuit Vergarabat, amongst others. Kerpel entered the world of film music recording and co-producing the film score for Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain and Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu’s Babel, both films received the Oscar for Best Film Score. Most recently, Kerpel has recorded and co-produced the video score and soundtrack for the acclaimed video game, The Last of Us and is currently working on the Guillermo Del Toro’s first animated production, “The Book of Life” directed by Jorge Gutierrez.
