Peggy A. Names (Peggy A. Waggoner) is a 3rd generation Californian. Her first introduction to the industry was a three-year stint as a regular on “American Bandstand." While attending USC, she held a job at a Hollywood Sound stage as a receptionist and PBX operator. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Art in 1975, she got the opportunity to work and train as a boom operator on a spoof called “The First Nudie Musical.” So much for the BFA, but the job paid $20.00 per day!

As a 5-foot tall female gymnast, Names didn’t exactly fit the stereotype of the 6-foot tall male boom operator. Still, she ignored the comments and crazy looks to become one of the pioneering women in production sound. During her 38-year career she has worked on many commercials and television shows, but her main area of expertise lies in motion pictures made for the big screen. Her credits include “Oz, the Great and Powerful”, “Alice in Wonderland”, “The Hangover Part II”, “Castaway”, “Minority Report” and “Enemy of the State.” A full list of her 78 credits may be viewed at Peggy A. Names..IMDB.

In December, Ms. Names was elected to her 2nd term as Trustee of Hollywood’s IATSE Local 695.

Though Names has encouraged and mentored many young women to follow in her footsteps, she is making her teaching debut, and is excited to share all of her interesting stories!
