Mark Linett

Three-time Grammy-winning producer/engineer Mark Linett began his career as a live sound mixer for Frank Zappa, Earth Wind & Fire and Journey, among others. He moved into studio work in 1978 as a staff engineer at Sunset Sound in LA, where he worked on many projects including America, Jimmy Webb and Hall & Oates. In late 1980 he accepted a position as staff engineer at Warner Bros Records’ Amigo studios, where he got to engineer albums for a wide range of artists including Randy Newman, Los Lobos, Rickie Lee Jones, Paul Simon and Eric Clapton. With the closing of Amigo in 1984 Linett became an independent engineer, working with Jane’s Addiction, Tom Petty, Dave Alvin and many more.

A routine 1987 studio booking phone call resulted in an offer to do a session for Brian Wilson, who was working on his first solo album. That project lasted for over a year, and Linett went on to work on many Wilson solo projects including “Live at the Roxy”, “Pet Sounds Live” and “Brian Wilson Presents Smile”, for which he received a Grammy nomination for Best Engineering. At the same time he began working on the Beach Boys catalog, producing and engineering the Grammy-nominated Pet Sounds Sessions box as well as 1993’s “Good Vibrations” box, last year’s “Made In California” box and the Grammy-winning 2012 “Smile Sessions” box set. Linett produced and mixed the first true stereo release of “Pet Sounds’” in 1996, as well as a 5.1 surround version a few years later, and is currently working on a new compilation of Beach Boys material from 1964.

Mark Linett is also co-owner of Music Mix Mobile West, a state-of-the-art audio remote truck based in Los Angeles. The truck has served a range of artists and the Grammys and CMAs for the past four years, as well as the I-Heart Music Festival and the Made in America Festival. Linett also engineers many of the broadcasts at the I-Heart Radio Theater in Los Angeles, most recently webcasts for Jason Aldean, Coldplay and Ariana Grande.
