Daniel Gonko grew up in Michigan in the suburbs of Detroit. He earned his Bachelor’s Degrees in Music Theory/Composition and Music Education at Central Michigan University studying under Dr. David Gillingham and Dr. Jose-Luis Maùrtua.  During that time he also studied orchestral percussion and jazz drum set under the auspices of Robert Hohner and Dr. Andrew J. Spencer. He obtained his MM degree from Western Carolina University in Commercial and Electronic Music where he studied recording arts and scoring for film/television under Dr. Bruce Frazier. He is currently the Recording Engineer at Western Carolina University where he teaches music technology and recording arts.
Mr. Gonko held a teaching assistantship during his 2-year tenure at Western Carolina University in the recording arts area. This inspired him to apply for the position of Professor of Recording Arts at the university following graduation. He worked at WCU for 4 years teaching recording and technology courses, as well as leading the Music Technology Performance Ensemble. He was the Director of Recording Studies at Elizabeth City State University, where he taught courses in recording arts, audio production, music technology, and multimedia development. He is currently the Recording Engineer at WCU where he teaches Advanced Recording Arts, as well as maintains the Recording and Television Studios,

Mr. Gonko maintains active schedules as a freelance composer, with projects ranging from competitive drum line books to independent film scores, as a performer with a variety of jazz groups in North Carolina, and as a mixing/mastering engineer. He has engineered, mixed, and mastered over 200 recordings, many of which are commercially available on iTunes and CD Baby.
