Primary Affiliation: Chips Davis Designs, LLC - San Francisco, CA, USA

Chips Davis is the founder of Chips Davis Designs which provides specialized acoustical analysis and design of critical listening spaces. This is based on more than 30 years of direct practical experience in the recording, television and radio industries, including mixing for records, live concerts and shows.

He has designed over 50 recording, radio and television studios, and has served as technical director, sound engineer or audio consultant for many Las Vegas and Hollywood entertainers and recording artists.

In 1977, Chips originated and introduced LEDE (Live End Dead End) acoustical design technology. Chips has continued his research and development of this concept to arrive at his current acoustical design techniques.

He was one of the instructors in the first two TDS (Time Delay Spectrometry and TEF (Time Energy Frequency measurements) Seminars in 1978-1979. He is often invited to lecture at universities and Audio Engineering Society (AES) meetings in many cities in the United States and Canada.

Chips was the 1987 recipient of Mix Magazine's international TEC award for "Technical Excellence and Creativity in Acoustics and Studio Design" and the “2004 Heyser Award” for the outstanding contribution to the field of electro-acoustical measurements.

Mr. Davis' work in the audio industry is documented in the Handbook for Sound Engineers--The New Audio Cyclopedia, Sound System Engineering and The Master Handbook of Acoustics. He was a member of the Audio Engineering Society's SC-3 Standards Subcommittee, and has served as session chairman on "Recording Technology" at two AES conventions.
