Dr. Leslie Linton (B.Mus.Ed., B.Ed., M.MusEd., PhD) has been teaching for 20 years with experience as an elementary music education specialist in public and private schools, as well as independent studio teaching. She is on the Research Committee of the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers Association, and on the Editorial Board of the Canadian Music Teacher peer-reviewed journal. She is on the Steering Committee of El Sistema Aeolian, which is a free after-school music program for youth who might not have an opportunity to participate in music lessons in the private setting and participate in an orchestral program. Dr. Linton is also the Editor of the Canadian Music Educator, the journal for the Canadian Music Educators Associations. Her current research involves the integration of music technology with music education which has resulted in a new 'app' that is in its final development stage. Leslie has presented her research in Canada and internationally, has articles published in various journals, and been a guest editor for several academic journals. Her research interests include socio-cultural applications in music education, critical pedagogy, technology, informal learning, general music education, and alternative music programs for youth. Leslie is an Assistant Professor in both the Faculty of Education and the Don Wright Faculty of Music at The University of Western Ontario. Her new book titled “Elementary Music Education, Informal Learning, and the New Sociology of Childhood” is currently in press and will be available in January 2015.
