Andrzej Ciarkowski

Andrzej Ciarkowski, M.Sc., was born in 1979 in Gdansk. In 1998-2003 he studied at the Technical University of Gdansk, where in 2003 he graduated at the Sound Engineering Department. His thesis was related to design of custom, high quality USB audio interface. Since that time he has been a member of the research staff at the Multimedia Systems Department as a Ph.D. student (2003 – 2008) and is currently working on Ph.D. thesis.
The subjects of his research are related to audio processing and quality improvement. The most notable topics of interest and projects he was involved with are:
• tracking of power line hum frequency in archival recordings for the purpose of wow and flutter modulation removal (FP6 PrestoSpace project);
• development of double-talk detection algorithm using audio watermarking techniques for use in acoustic echo cancellation in VoIP communication;
• implementation of sound processing algorithms for use in hearing-impaired therapy devices;
• implementation of real-time multimedia communication framework for intelligent surveillance applications.
