Prof. Martin Steyer (Germany) graduated from the Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin in 1975 with a diploma in Sound (Tonmeister) and Piano. He initially worked as a sound engineer for Studio Berlin / TTV, before commencing his career as a self-employed sound engineer mostly for movie sound and re-recording mixing in 1979. He was mixing more then 200 films, including The Last King of Scotland, Elementarteilchen (Atomised/Elementary Particles), Requiem, Goodbye Lenin!, Resident Evil 1, Yella, Jerichow, Anonyma, Effi Briest, The Last Station, A Most Wanted Man, RUSH. He also does sound mixing for live events and classic CD-recordings and is a consultant for the design of sound studios. He created sound installations for crossover projects with artists and other musicians.
He was a lecturer at the German Film and TV Academy (dffb) in Berlin from 1985-2005, is Professor at HFF (The Film and Television University "Konrad Wolf" Potsdam-Babelsberg) since 2005 and Vice President of HFF since 2006.
Since 2008, he is the Programme Director of the INSIGHT OUT Academy at HFF.
Martin Steyer was boardmember of the German Film Academy from 2008-2014.
