Carl Nappa

Primary Affiliation: Extreme Institute by Nelly - Saint Louis, MO, USA

Carl Nappa's musical journey began with the gift of an acoustic guitar at age 9 from his godfather. Playing rock, funk, R&B and jazz throughout his teen years eventually led him into a recording studio. It was during that first introduction to the technical side of music that he developed his appreciation for what happened on the other side of the glass.

In the late 1980s, Mr. Nappa had the good fortune to apprentice with Multi-Grammy award winning engineer, Bob St. John. During that time, they worked with Extreme, the Baby Animals, Dweezil Zappa, Steve Perry, and many others. Those recording sessions took them to Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and the famed Abby Road Studios in London. In the mid-1990s, he left Boston to join the Hit Factory recording studios in New York City.

Working as a Staff Engineer at The Hit Factory provided Mr. Nappa the opportunity to work on sessions ranging from vocal overdubs to eighty-piece orchestras alongside the major pop stars of our time. He was able to fine tune his record making process by working with legendary artists and producers such as Arif Mardin, Phil Ramone, Mutt Lange, Al Schmit, Elliot Schiner, Alan Parsons, Ray Bardani, Jerry Brown, Teddy Riley, P Diddy, Wyclef Jean, Kevin Law, and Vincent Herbert. As a producer and recording engineer, Mr. Nappa brings over 20 years of recording experience to ex'treme Institute. Widely recognized for his work on both major label and independent records, he most recently served as the Director of Recording for Nelly's Derrty Entertainment. His duties there allowed him to work closely alongside Nelly and other recording artists at the record Label.

Mr. Nappa has been awarded over thirty Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum records as well as being Grammy and Aria nominated as an engineer, mixer, and producer. He has worked with many high visibility artists in the music industry in the Rock, Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, Country, and Jazz genres
