ESPN VP, Technology Planning, Jim Servies joined the network in 1980, its first year of operation. In 2001 after serving in a variety of increasingly demanding positions ranging from Technical Manager, Remote Engineering to Supervisor, Manager, Director and later VP, Systems Engineering, his focus tightened on generating and managing ESPN Capital Budgets as VP Technology Planning and Project Development. Named VP Project Development, in 2004, he became a lead member of the Los Angeles Production Center team, working on the LA project until it’s opening in early 2009. In 2010 he was named Principal Engineer, with a focus on successful completion of major technology-based projects; currently wrapping up Digital Center 2. Prior to ESPN, Servies was chief engineer for Utopia Video in Woodstock, N.Y.; Project Engineer for Vital Electronics in Gainesville, Fla.; Maintenance Engineer for WUFT-TV in Gainesville, Fla.; and Master Control Operator for Pensacola Cablevision.
