Summary
The role of the record producer is becoming more complex, as the rapid advance of technology creates a new dynamic between musical interpretation and its recorded realization. The impact of a recorded performance can be critically affected by the way in which the recording is created. With increased technological progress the question arises: Are we still meeting the artistic intentions of the performers?
An analysis of the functions, aims and objectives of a classical recording producer is given. The topics are illustrated with images and case studies of a variety of recording situations, as well as many listening excerpts in stereo and surround.
A panel discussion will follow.
