Saturday, May 11, 15:30 18:00 h, Room K1 W9 Record Producer - Present and Future Challenges (Seminar and Panel Discussion) Chair: Martha DeFrancisco, Baarn, Netherlands Panel: Erdo Groot, Polyhymnia International, Baarn, The Netherlands Michael Haas, Independent Producer, London, UK Andrew Hurlbut, Independent Producer, Toronto, Canada Andreas Neubronner, Tritonus Musikproduktion, Stuttgart, Germany Daniel Zalay, CNSMDP-Radio France, Paris, France Summary The role of the record producer is becoming more complex, as the rapid advance of technology creates a new dynamic between musical interpretation and its recorded realization. The impact of a recorded performance can be critically affected by the way in which the recording is created. With increased technological progress the question arises: Are we still meeting the artistic intentions of the performers? An analysis of the functions, aims and objectives of a classical recording producer is given. The topics are illustrated with images and case studies of a variety of recording situations, as well as many listening excerpts in stereo and surround. A panel discussion will follow. |
