Saturday, May 11, 15:30 18:00 h, Room K2 W8 Future Spatial Reproduction Systems Chair: Wieslaw Woszczyk, McGill University, Montreal, Canada Panel: Werner Dabringhaus, Dabringhaus und Grimm Audiovision, Detmold, Germany Ulrich Horbach, Studer Professional Audio, Regensdorf, Switzerland David Malham, The University of York, Heslington, UK Kazuho Ono, NHK Science & Technical Research Laboratories, Tokyo, Japan Francis Rumsey, University of Surrey, Guildford, UK Günther Theile, IRT, München, Germany Summary Different reproduction paradigms have emerged during the last few years. Some of the formats discussed in this workshop are compatible to well established recording and production techniques in stereo, such as the 3/2-Surround standard, Dolby EX or the newly introduced 10.2 format. Others, such as Ambisonics and Wave Field Synthesis, which are very flexible with respect to the loudspeaker positioning, and the number of channels, require a new approach to recording and transmission techniques. The sonic quality of the different approaches, the achievable listening-zone size, as well as their advantages and disadvantages will be highlighted. The Workshop is complemented by sound demonstrations in Workshop Demo Rooms 1 and 2 |
