If the material submitted by the author does not conform to these guidelines, the Convention or Conference Committee may contact the author to suggest revisions. If so, the edited version must appear in the final manuscript. If the author is not available, or the material cannot be revised, the submission may be rejected.
To ensure that convention and conference papers are consistent with the goals of the AES, the following guidelines shall be considered by authors.
Technical content shall be accurate. It should cite original work or review previous work giving proper credit.
If the paper describes a product, the content should dwell on the technical aspects of the equipment (circuitry, layout, specifications, functions, and applications).
Good grammar should be used and writing should be easy to understand.
Superlatives should be omitted.
Words and phrases shall not be abbreviated in titles, abstracts, nor the first time they appear in the text.
Metric units according to the System of International Units (SI) should be used. For more details see "Metric Review" (with updated references) by G. Franklin Montgomery and J. G. McKnight, "Quantities, Units, Letter Symbols, and Abbreviations." We have also compiled a list of frequently used SI units and their symbols.
Company logos shall not be used.
Manufacturer's name and model names or numbers shall not be used in titles and abstracts, and should be kept to a minimum in the text (generic descriptions should be used).
The trademark symbol (™) is not permitted.
Trademarked names in titles and abstracts should be replaced by generic descriptions where possible. If trademarked names are retained in titles and abstracts, they will not be acknowledged as such.
The first time a trademarked name appears in the body text, it may be footnoted. The footnote will state that it is registered, and the name of the owner.
Manuscripts for AES conventions and conferences are not edited by the editorial staff. It is therefore important that authors prepare their manuscripts in accordance with the templates posted on the online submission site for each event.
References should be numbered and listed at the end of the text, and should be cited in the text consecutively by number (shown in brackets).
Each figure must be identified with a typed figure number and caption.
Graphics (charts, graphs, illustrations, photos) may have to be compressed to keep the electronic file size reasonably small, but not to the point that readability suffers. Colors used in graphics will be maintained for electronic publications, but any printed versions (if produced) will be black and white. Any information conveyed by colors is likely to be lost in a B&W copy. Remember this when you use colored lines in graphs, etc. You should also use text labels or symbols/styles for the lines.

The standard AES paper cover or header page is copyrighted by the Audio Engineering Society and may not be reproduced without permission.
Copyright to the content (but not the AES format) of an AES convention or conference paper remains with its author. However, when submitting a paper for presentation at an AES convention or conference, an author agrees that the AES Journal will have the first opportunity to consider an updated version of it for publication. If it is accepted for publication in the Journal, authors will be asked to execute a transfer of copyright agreement.
