I am a Professor of Signal Processing and a long-standing researcher in the field of audio engineering. My research interests include room acoustics modelling and auralization, multichannel audio systems, immersive audio, psychoacoustics of spatial hearing, microphone arrays, and artificial reverberation. I founded the METU Spatial Audio Research Group (SPARG) in 2013 and have been leading it since then. I have supervised and mentored more than 20 masters and Ph.D. students in the audio signal processing field. I am one of the co-founders of sonixpace, a university spin-off company developing scalable software and hardware tools for immersive audio capture, coding and rendering.
2015 METU Academic Performance Award (awarded to top 20% of academic staff annually based on the evaluation of research and teaching activities of the preceding three years)
2012 — Senior Member of the IEEE

2000 B.Sc. (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Middle East Technical University
(METU), Turkey
2015 — 2022 Associate Professor, Department of Modelling and Simulation, Graduate School of Informatics, METU, Ankara, Turkey
2012 -- 2017 Head of Department of Modelling and Simulation, Graduate School of Informatics, METU, Ankara, Turkey
2022 — Full Professor of Signal Processing Graduate School of Informatics, METU, Ankara, Turkey
2012 -- 2015 Assistant Professor, Department of Modelling and Simulation, Graduate School of Informatics, METU, Ankara, Turkey
2011 — 2012 TÜBİTAK 2232 Research Fellow, Graduate School of Informatics, METU, Ankara, Turkey
2008 -- 2011 Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Centre for Digital Signal Processing Research, King's College London, UK
2004 — 2008 Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Centre for Communication Systems Research, University of Surrey, UK
I am an official representative of METU in the Moving Picture, Audio and Data Coding by Artificial Intelligence (MPAI), where he has contributed to audio-related standardization efforts particularly in the Context-enhanced Audio Experience (MPAI-CAE) standard which was subsequently adopted by the IEEE Standards Association as IEEE 3302-2022.
I am an inventor/co-inventor on several international patents on spatial audio, artificial reverberation and microphone array technologies.
I joined AES in 2002 while I was a PhD student working on binaural room auralization. I attended many AES conventions and conferences and have always found an approachable and supportive crowd. I am an AES member to be a part this excellent community.
