Illusions in Sound: the application of psychoacoustics to audio
11-12 April 2007, New Hall, Cambridge
The conference will take place in New Hall, the Cambridge college for women that was founded in 1954. The buildings that house the college were contructed from 1964 onwards, and are modern architectural masterpieces, arranged around the stunning Dome dining hall. The college is set in 11 acres of grounds with informal lawns and gardens
Accomodation for the conference has been organised within the college, and this residential arrangement will allow for the full networking potential of the conference as well as the chance to experience the ambience of a Cambridge college. More information on the college can be found here.
On Wednesday evening, dinner will be in the Dome in New Hall, which is a spectacular piece of modern architecture.
Tourism
The city of Cambridge is also a great tourist destination, both for the beauty of its historic buildings and as a thriving shopping centre. This conference gives an opportunity to visit this city, with the option to arrive early or leave late to take in more of this unique area. More information on tourism in the area can be found below.
Directions
There is limited parking at the college, so attendees are encouraged to arrive via public transport wherever possible.
New Hall is situated on Huntingdon Road, 1 mile northwest of Cambridge City Centre. All attendees should report upon arrival to the Porter's Lodge located at the main entrance to the College.
Arriving by Air:
National Express run bus services from Stansted, Luton, Heathrow and Gatwick airports to Cambridge - for more information, please click here. If you use these services, please then follow the instructions 'Arriving by Coach' shown below.
The closest and most convenient international airport for Cambridge is Stansted. A direct rail service is also available from Stansted Airport to Cambridge that leaves once an hour throughout the day and takes approximately 35 minutes. If you use this service, please then follow the instructions 'Arriving by Train' shown below.
Arriving by Train:
Fast trains from London King's Cross station run every half hour (journey time approximately 45 minutes); the timetable is available in PDF format here. Regular train services are also available to Cambridge from other locations; see the National Rail journey planner.
It is quickest and easiest to travel from Cambridge train station to the College by taxi. Alternative options include a regular bus service (from the station to the City Centre, then from the City Centre take the No. 2 bus to Huntingdon Road), or walking (approximately a 35 minute walk through the historic centre). Arriving by Coach:
Cambridge bus station is on Drummer Street, which is approximately 1 mile from the College. It is quickest and easiest to travel to the College by taxi. Alternative options include a regular bus service (direct from the bus station to Huntingdon Road), or walking (approximately a 20 minute walk). For more information, maps are shown below.
