MTSU AES Fall 2019 Preview

Current students—welcome back!  And a warm welcome to new students interested in Audio Production in MTSU's College of Media and Entertainment.

The MTSU AES Student Section aims to connect you with special events and to present learning opportunities on-campus that build on—and go beyond--your regular classroom experiences.

A special networking event is coming up during the very first week of classes.  Meet your peers from other Nashville-area AES student chapters and learn about the professional AES Nashville section, too.  See the adjacent blog entry for details about this social hang on Thursday, August 29 (6-9 p.m.) in Nashville.

Here in Murfreesboro, we'll have a table at the Media and Entertainment Student Organization Fair on Wednesday, September 11 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.) in the Bragg Building.

If you're interested in attending the 2019 Music Expo Nashville, save Saturday, September 21, in your calendar.  Use the discount code MTSUSTUDENT2019 for 50 percent off the registration fee.

The big external event each fall is the AES International Convention in New York City.  The exhibits will run October 16-18, and the program of workshops, demos, tutorials and papers (and so much more, including special student events) runs October 16-19.  Since NYC is within reasonable (!) driving distance and there are affordable non-stop flights from Nashville (BNA), making the pilgrimage to one of the most important audio events of the year is something that all serious AP students should consider at least once while you're a student at MTSU.

Further events are being planned, and detailed announcements will follow soon.

AES Nashville Spring Mixer—Save the Date

The annual AES Nashville Spring Mixer is a competition hosted by AES Nashville to benefit the schools teaching audio engineering in and around Middle Tennessee.  Each school selects a team of 2-3 students who are given the opportunity to mix one song in eight hours at one of eight identical mixing rooms at MTV/CMT studios in downtown Nashville.  The resulting mix is judged by a panel of industry professionals – mixing engineers, mastering engineers, and producers. The results of that judging are revealed along with anonymous comments on the students’ work at our Spring Mixer event!

See photos and info from the 2018 edition here.

The 2019 results and playback/critique event will be April 11.  Details TBA.
