The annual "Spring Mixer," organized and supported by the AES Nashville professional section, is a music mixing competition for student AES members enrolled in Middle Tennessee area undergraduate audio programs. Now in its 15th year, the event has drawn teams from schools including MTSU, Belmont University, SAE, the Art Institute, Lipscomb University, Blackbird Academy, and even the University of North Alabama.
Each team receives identical raw audio multitracks from a Nashville studio session. Using identical Pro Tools HD mixing rooms at the MTV Networks Studios in Nashville, the teams have eight hours each (done over a two-day period) to create and deliver a stereo mix with industry-standard documentation.
A panel of judges, who are typically top local engineers and producers, evaluates each mix based on specific sonic and technical qualities. At this event on April 19, the results will be presented by the judges during a playback session with excerpts from each mix and a lively discussion about what they heard.
Come support your MTSU team and listen to all the mix versions and comments for yourself! This is always an engaging and ear-opening learning opportunity for all audio production students.
