Summary

Dave Still was gracious enough to present some of the theory behind architectural acoustics modeling as well as some aspects of projects that his company has been working on. Mr. Still spoke for about an hour giving a brief synopsis of his career path into the field of acoustics leading into a more in depth discussion of acoustic modeling using the program Catacoustic. Mr. Still spoke about some of the hurdles that must be overcome during most every project; the largest being portraying the necessity of the acoustic treatment in a way that the client can understand and appreciate. The talk culminated in a group demonstration of an auralization of the Wachovia Center, one of EAI's projects. Presentation attendees were able to hear what it would be like to sit in the stands at the Wachovia center with and without the acoustic treatments, the difference was quite astounding. The members of AES would like to extend their thanks to both Dave Still and Environmental Acoustics for taking the time and energy to come to Penn State and give a presentation.
