Summary

Studio Managers Candace Stewart (from East/West), Paula Salvatore (from Capitol)
and Sylvia Massy (from Studio Divine) came to visit CRAS to hold a panel for the
student body. AES CRAS was honored to have them, and things started off with each
of them telling their story about how they got started. Paula Salvatore wanted to be a
musician and started off by sewing clothes for a band called Angel. Candace Stewart
grew up in a family of musicians, but didn't feel she was as good. "If I can't be the
best, I didn't want to do it", she remarked. So she ended up going into booking and
managing which she felt she could do best and her brothers didn't want to it and the
rest is history. Finally, Sylvia Massy got her start at Larrabee Sound and did some early work with Green Jello which led to one thing after the other and eventually led her to who she is today.

They went through a lot of different topics such as meeting or working with various
celebrities at sessions. For example, Sylvia Massy had the opportunity to work under
Prince which she noted was tough yet rewarding. Next they went on to discuss traits
one should hone to be successful. The common traits that came up were being a
good person to hang around, being a good communicator that follows up
consistently, being attentive to detail, having good hygiene (which they stressed was
a MUST) and having humility.

The panel ended with a few questions from the students, to which the studio
managers gave a lot of advice. Paula Salvatore said, "Don't ever think anything is
below you, you never know what is at work with your fate." Sylvia Massy stated to the
students "Try not to say no to anything." Candice Stewart concluded by saying "When
you go to school it's as much of figuring out what you don't want to do....., Be
absolutely on top of your game; dress appropriately."
