On Tuesday, November 15th, 2017, Rode product specialist, Ryan White came to The
Conservatory to speak to CRAS AES students about Rode microphones as well as offer his
insight into the world of audio and how to achieve success while at CRAS. Ryan White is a
previous CRAS grad as well as a former member of project staff, he has since gone on to have
a successful career in the audio world, traveling the country speaking about Rode. Rode is a
Sydney, Australia based Microphone company. Rode is best known for manufacturing highquality
microphones at an affordable price for the everyday consumer, professional engineers,
and the film industry. During our event Mr. White showcased some of his personal favorite
mics, such as, but not limited to, the NTR, the NT2-A, and the K2. Mr. White took the time to
speak not only about his product but also miking techniques and proper work flow while in a
studio. When asked what advice Mr. White could offer to CRAS students, he offered us this
advice: Do not give anyone a reason not to like you, be cool, but do not be a doormat. He also
mentioned that networking should be made a priority. In summary, Mr. White made it known to
us that the audio industry is a tough one, knowing the right people helps get your foot in the
door, and that you have to be willing to put forth effort and step out of your comfort zone in
order to success.
