Summary

The meeting started with a recap of the 139th AES Convention in New York. The members that went gave a brief summary of their experience, so those that didn't go could get an idea on what opportunities were available. The meeting continued with a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) demo by Daniel Cabeza de Vaca. Daniel is an AES member, and has been working alongside with our advisor Professor Henry, both as a colleague and as a student. Daniel proceeded to go over features of Digital Performer, as this DAW is used by the Recording Arts and Technology Program. This gave our newer members an introduction to what they can expect as they begin to enroll in the program. A very influential lesson that Daniel taught us was that we should not let different DAWs intervene with what we are trying to accomplish in audio.

Our meeting concluded with listening to projects created by three of our members. In our previous meeting, we asked our members to complete an audio project. This project was to record and manipulate natural sound to either create an effect, or to replicate a drum beat. The projects presented by our members included a lot of sounds which spectators could not distinguish the origin of. This achieved the goal we intended for our members, which was to creatively record and manipulate sound beyond distinction. We hope to have more interactive activities in the future.
