The AES Atlanta Section held it's 1st Annual "Art Of Record Production" panel on May 17th at Southern Tracks Recording Studios in Atlanta, GA. The panel focused on the creation of a record from beginning to end. Tom Tapley (Sugarland, Mastadon, Pearl Jam) was in the role of the recording engineer, Billy Hume (Ludacris, Manchester Orchestra, Colt Ford) acted in the role of the mix engineer, and Rodney Mills (Lynyrd Skynyrd, .38 Special, Bob Marley And The Wailers) participated as the mastering engineer. Jim Zumpano of Zac Recording Studios participated as the moderator for the panel. The discussion began with a broad question of "how would a record be created today?" The discussion lead to many different topics including: budgets, changing technology, and the crossover of engineering roles. The event concluded with a Q&A session with the audience. The event was sponsored by Audio Technica, Comprehensive Technical Group, and Atlanta Pro Audio.
