Medical ultrasound technology has been used clinically since the late 1930’s, and is widely used today in both diagnostic and therapeutic applications.  While ultrasound shares many characteristics with audible sound, important characteristics manifest at high frequencies that need to be considered in acoustic design.  This talk will give a high-level overview of modern diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound technology, highlighting similarities and differences between ultrasound and audio frequency design.
