We’ll also show the Dolby Atmos facility at Montgomery County Community College near Philadelphia, and the 9.1.6 mastering room at Coast Mastering in Berkeley CA.

Biography
Michael Romanowski is a four-time Grammy-winning mastering engineer based in Berkeley, California. He serves as the owner and chief mastering engineer of Coast Mastering and is the co-founder of the analog tape label, The Tape Project.
Michael's extensive credits encompass a diverse array of artists, including Alicia Keys, Bonnie Raitt, Lyle Lovett, Earth Wind & Fire, Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, The Bee Gees, Al Green, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Peter Frampton, George Strait, Star Wars Soundtracks, Dr. Strange 2 Soundtrack, The Eagles, Dune Soundtrack, Third Eye Blind, G-Love, Jeffrey Gaines, Sting, Cheryl Crow, Marvin Gaye, Tears for Fears, Soundgarden, Pink, Evanescence, Seal, Yes, Lady Gaga, Alanis Morissette, Matchbox 20, and many more.
Currently, Michael holds the position of Trustee at the Recording Academy and also serves as the Co-Chair of the National Awards and Nominations Committee, Co-Chair of the P&E Immersive Committee, and is a member of the National Advisory Council to the Producers and Engineers Wing.
As a pioneer in immersive audio, Michael designed and constructed his first surround studio in 2001, adding height channels in 2015. His initial Dolby Atmos music releases were completed in 2016, predating the establishment of Dolby Music as a separate entity.
Subsequently, Michael meticulously planned and built Coast Mastering as a 9.1.6 and Sony 360RA monitoring room in consultation with Bob Hodas and Bob Levy. In 2020, the facility received a TEC Nomination for studio design.
Over the years, Michael has served as an advisor and expert in the early testing of immersive audio for Dolby, Sony, Fraunhofer, and other companies. He has contributed articles to Mix Magazine and Electronic Musician and has delivered numerous presentations at AES, NAMM, SXSW, Tape Op, AES Mexico, and AES Europe.
