Representing the culmination of 15 years of digital console design, DiGiCo’s new SD12 console will be the centerpiece of the company’s presence at the AES New York Convention.
Spotlighted on Group One’s stand, #631, the desk will share the show floor with DiGiCo’s S31—the larger, triple-screen sibling of the S21 - and the company’s flagship SD7 touring console, among other products.
“From the stages of Summerfest’s 50th in Milwaukee to the audition and elimination rounds of NBC’s America’s Got Talent in Los Angeles, the SD12 has very quickly been showing up on numerous tours, festivals and installs since we launched it at NAMM back in January,” says Group One Vice President of Audio Matt Larson. “Equipped with DiGiCo’s latest generation of Super FPGA processing along with the Core2 platform and dual 15-inch touchscreens, the popular desk embodies the best features of both the SD- and S-Series combined into a highly compact yet intuitive and user-friendly design.”

The Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing will be presenting a group of experts at AES New York 2017 as part of the convention's Recording & Production track. Titled "High Resolution Record Production and Why It Matters," this panel takes place Thursday, October 19, from 3:00pm - 4:15pm (Room 1E14) at the Javits Center and will address current guidelines and production considerations when producing, recording, mixing, and mastering in High-Resolution audio.
Many GRAMMY-nominated and -winning members of the Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing work in lossless-encoded Hi-Res audio that's better than CD quality in both sample rate and bit depth. These engineers are so serious about this topic, they spent more than two years conducting an extensive series of interviews with active recording professionals from all genres, regions, and specialties, ultimately collaborating on a set of guidelines titled "Recommendations for Hi-Resolution Music Production," which is being presented at this AES Convention. A panel comprising several leaders in the field of audio recoreding will advocate that working in high resolution has many current and long-term benefits, both artistically and commercially. The panelists will include:
Moderator Michael Romanowski, Coast Mastering – Berkeley, CA, USA; Panelists Chuck Ainlay, METAlliance - Nashville, Tennessee, USA; Marc Finer, Digital Entertainment Group – Los Angeles, CA, USA; Leslie Ann Jones, Recording Engineer and Producer, Director of Music Recording and Scoring, Skywalker Sound – San Rafael, CA, USA; and Bob Ludwig, Gateway Mastering Studios, Inc. – Portland, ME, USA
"The number of Hi-Res projects being delivered to labels is increasing as we see consumer demand for better audio growing," stated Maureen Droney, Recording Academy Managing Director, Producers & Engineers Wing. "The P&E Wing's 'Recommendations for Hi-Resolution Music Production' address two goals: Our need to promote an environment where the best possible audio quality is consistently delivered to consumers, and the drive to assist record labels, online distributors, and aggregators with their master delivery requirements. We have met these goals on both counts with a document that helps pave the way to a consistent production workflow that brings us into the future."

Augspurger is debuting the Treo 812 CFM Close Field Main Monitoring System, to be shown at the 143rd AES Convention in New York City October 18-20, 2017. Building on the Augspurger product range, this new 3-way design features mirror-imaged horizontal cabinets housing an 8-inch ferrite low/mid driver, a 4-inch, 99.98% pure beryllium HF compression driver on Augspurger’s rock maple MF “MidFocus” horn, and a 12” integrated subwoofer mounted on a ported 1.5” thick MDF front baffle.
The compactly designed Augspurger Treo 812CFM monitor was conceived for audio applications where dynamics and detailed accuracy are critical. Sporting in-room frequency response of 24 Hz – 20 kHz and output of 124 dB SPL, the 2500 watt system delivers monitoring for smaller work spaces.
The cabinet dimensions are 28” x 20.675” x 17.5” (WxHxD) with a rear-mounted 1250 watt, 3-way Class D amplifier, featuring DSP to provide individual system tuning for every room. Standard cabinet finishes are matte black and matte silver, with optional high-gloss finishes available in any color. Starting price of the Treo system will be $17,500, and the loudspeaker is already available.
“With the subwoofer in the same cabinet, the system’s space-efficiency and practicality is unquestioned,” said Augspurger product manager Bruce Bartone, “Although we expect larger rooms will also find the Treo a very attractive close-field solution, as well.”
Augspurger president Dave Malekpour summed it up, “The development of Treo 812CFM opens up a new era of monitoring for people who work in more confined spaces, but still need the power and purity of Augspurger. Treo won’t need to be used in conjunction with small near fields or external subs; you’ll be able to record, mix and master on one perfect monitor, at any volume.”
Each Augspurger Treo 812CFM system, along with all Augspurger monitors, are expertly hand crafted and tested in Hanover, MA USA.
Treo can be seen and heard at AES Booth 548. Visit https://augspurger.com/products/treo-812-cfm for more.
