Theresa Leonard

Theresa Leonard is an internationally respected music producer and audio educator. As a Classical producer, she has produced and engineered award-winning and nominated recordings for many labels. For 21 years, she served as Director of Audio at Banff Centre in Canada, and was instrumental in growing the vision of the audio practicum area to international status as well as overseeing all activities in the Centre's extensive music recording and audio post-production facilities. Ms. Leonard also brought many top industry professionals to Banff to lecture on music production, engineering and sound for picture.
In 2008, she was invited as a guest research professor to Bang & Olufsen in Denmark and in 2015 was Visiting Scholar at New York University Steinhardt School. She facilitated the Stanford Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) summer workshop (2004). She has been a program consultant for recording arts educational programs at graduate and undergraduate levels at a variety of post-secondary institutions including The Peabody Institute at John Hopkins University, The Schulich School of Music at McGill University, Ball State University, University of Massachusetts Lowell and The Royal Conservatoire, The Hague. She has been invited as a speaker to numerous institutions and conferences including: AES Brazil, The Peabody Conservatory, The Chopin Academy of Music, Warsaw, Gdansk Technical University (Poland), New York University, and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et De Danse De Paris (France).
Ms. Leonard served as AES president in 2004/2005, and also as education chair for the Society. She chaired the 24th International Audio Engineering Society (AES) Conference on Multichannel Audio (2003), and received an AES Fellowship in New York City in 2013 for her professional achievements and dedication to the AES and its Education initiatives. Ms. Leonard holds a Master of Music degree in sound recording from McGill University, and bachelor degrees in both music and education.
She is currently consulting on the growth of music production within the Victoria Conservatory of Music and is actively involved in the recording and producing of artists as part of a new area of study at VCM.
