John French

Bio: John is a graduate of Cleveland Institute of Electronics and the North Jersey Drafting and Mechanical Design School and joined his family head manufacturing businesses (Gem Electro-Magnetics and Grandy Inc) after returning from the Air Force in 1970. After 3 years of working with digital tape certification equipment, he attended his first AES show in 1974 and that was it for digital. John and his wife Cookie started JRF Magnetic Sciences Inc in 1980 and have spent the past 38 years servicing the analog recording industries with magnetic head reconditioning, replacement head sales, custom head and assembly design and other support services. Work has included analog heads for government agencies, equipment manufacturers, high speed tape duplication facilities, recording studios, broadcast, mastering, archival, audiophile clients and recently assisted the Library of Congress with custom playback head assemblies to archive the massive Les Paul library. In 2009 JRF purchased the entire Nortronics 50,000 plus analog head inventory which expanded their support of analog recording equipment. John is a career long "lifetime" member of AES, NARAS and served as chairman of the 70th AES convention in which he received the Board of Governors award for starting the workshop programs at the AES conventions.
