Andri Bezzola
Primary Affiliation: Samsung Research America - Valencia, CA USA
AES Member Type: Member
An innovative mechanical engineer with a specialization in simulation and modelling, Andri Bezzola is the Lead Simulation Engineer and Senior Mechanical Engineer at Samsung Research America’s Audio Lab in Valencia, California.
Andri’s simulations reach across the mechanical, acoustics, and system engineering teams and he plays an active role in simulation efforts for more than 15 products brought to market by Samsung Electronics over the past 30 months. Andri performs multiphysics simulations and virtual studies of all aspects of loudspeaker design, from electromagnetics studies in transducers and fully coupled structural-acoustics simulations of loudspeakers, waveguides and enclosures, to beamforming optimization of loudspeaker arrays.
A detail focused engineer with a knack for combining state of the art FEM and optimization algorithms, Andri was responsible for designing optimal waveguides for omnidirectional tweeter of Samsung R series of multi-room speakers (patent pending) and the K950 ATMOS soundbar. He was instrumental in the development of simulation methodology to accurately estimate the total emitted soundpower of loudspeakers and correlated simulations with experimental results.
He holds one granted patent and has four patents pending, and he has authored publications in several scientific journals and conferences, including Journal of Computational Physics and Journal of Electrochemical Society, and Acoustical Engineering Society Convention.
Andri Bezzola received his BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zürich, Switzerland, in 2005 and graduated with an MSc from ETH in 2007 with a specialization in lightweight structures and structural optimization.
From 2007 to 2014, Andri studied with the Computational Science and Engineering group of Prof. Linda Petzold at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB). He received his Ph.D. in March 2014 after contributing to novel simulation algorithms that perform multiscale stochastic simulations in spatial contexts.
In his spare time, Andri enjoys going to concerts, swimming and surfing, and spending time with his two young daughters. He likes to travel the world and speaks English, German, French, Italian, and a bit of Spanish in addition to his native mother tongue Raeto-Rumantsch.
