Fascinated by music, sound, and audio technology since building a crystal radio set as a lad, Michael Pettersen earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory from the University of Illinois in 1974.

Employed by microphone manufacturer Shure Incorporated since 1976, Michael is the Director of Applications Engineering and the Corporate Historian. He is a contributing author to the 1,550 page reference tome "Handbook for Sound Engineers - Third Edition." He has presented technical white papers to the Audio Engineering Society, the Acoustical Society of America, National Association of Broadcasters, Acoustical Society of America, National Systems Contractor Association, European Institute of Acoustics, Voice of America, and White House Communications Agency.

Michael has played rhythm guitar and banjo in big bands since 1970, and is on the playing roster of four big bands in the Chicago area. In 2000, Michael co-founded an educational web site dedicated to the music and memory of guitarist Freddie Green: www.freddiegreen.org. The web site, consisting of over 200 pages of text/photos/music, receives 60,000 visitors per year.

Michael is also an arranger of choral music. His most popular work is "Down In The Valley To Pray", published in 2005 by Walton Music. This work has received hundreds of performances worldwide, including one in the Vatican.

Michael resides in Evanston, Illinois, with his wife, Dr. Jan Marie Aramini, a clinical psychologist. They share a passion for choral singing, and will be performing the Mozart Requiem in Vienna next summer.
