Newly elected Governors are Brecht De Man, Valeria Palomino and Magdalena Piotrowska. Save for the President-Elect, each newly-elected individual will serve a two-year term, while those re-elected will have their current term of office extended for two years. Wyner will serve a year as President-Elect, in 2021 as President, in 2022 as Past-President and two-years as a Governor. Outgoing from the Board of Governors as regional Vice Presidents are Ufuk Önen (Southern Europe/Middle East/Africa Region) and Mike Porter (Central Region, USA/Canada). Governors with terms ending at the end of 2019 are Martha de Francisco, Kyle P. Snyder and, as he assumes the position of President-Elect, Jonathan Wyner. Additionally, Governor (and Past President, twice removed) John Krivit will complete his five-year commitment to the BoG, while Current Past President David Scheirman will transition to Governor for the first year of a two-year term. "The Society owes a debt of gratitude to all those who have served on the Board of Governors," says AES President Nadja Wallaszkovits, "as well as those continuing to serve. We also sincerely appreciate the entire slate of outstanding candidates on the 2019 ballot for their commitment to the AES, and we congratulate our newly-elected Governors and Directors. I look forward to their contributions as we work together in the coming year." Per the AES bylaws amendment passed in the 2019 elections, the Society's governing structure will be revised to conform to legal requirements, effective in August of 2019. A newly formed Board of Directors (BoD), the governing body of the Society, will consist of the Society's Member-elected officers plus two Directors to be elected by the Board of Governors (BoG). Those eligible to become BoG-elected Directors must be either a current or recent member of the BoG. The Board of Governors (BoG) will retain many of its current responsibilities and will continue to be composed of the Regional Vice Presidents and Governors-at-large, along with the members of the BoD. The responsibilities currently held by the Executive Committee of the BoG, which will cease to exist, will be filled primarily by the BoD. The election was monitored, and the results presented, by Gary Louie, Chair of the AES's Tellers Committee. For more information on the Audio Engineering Society, please visit www.aes.org. AES New York Fall Convention Update

AES New York Fall Convention Update

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to impact large event feasibility, planning and logistics. You may have seen that the NAB NY Show 2020 is being converted into a digital event. While we have collocated with NAB NY in recent years to our mutual benefit, and we share the desire to make decisions in the best interests of our attendees, the Audio Engineering Society and its legal team are still in ongoing discussions with the Javits Center concerning the scheduled AES New York Fall Convention, while closely monitoring information from health authorities and New York government’s guidelines and restrictions.

The Convention Technical Program planning is progressing on a normal schedule. Registration, however, has not yet been opened while the feasibility of a safe, productive and enjoyable physical convention undergoes further evaluation.

The public health precautions that are impacting our industry so drastically are the same that are impacting our potential to host a traditional AES Convention with all its many elements.

Following the success of the recent AES Virtual Vienna online convention, the Fall Convention Technical Program will be available worldwide in an online streaming format.

The safety of our members, attendees, participants, and staff is the highest priority. The Society suggests that attendees and prospective participants refrain from finalizing travel arrangements at this time. When a final determination of the status of the physical event can be made, we will provide further information to participants. We appreciate your patience.

The AES Needs You!

The AES Needs You!

The Audio Engineering Society has not proven immune to the havoc the COVID-19 pandemic is wreaking across the globe. The traditional cashflow of the Society, fueled by its events, has been severely disrupted. The AES has launched a fundraising campaign to ensure the Society’s continued operation through the crisis. The goal of the initiative is to raise $500,000 USD by June 1. In an appeal to AES stakeholders, AES President Agnieszka Roginska acknowledged that many AES members, and many among the Society’s manufacturer and service provider partners, are facing their own challenges in this time of global upheaval. “Others,” said Roginska in her letter, “may be in a more stable position and able to once again contribute to the Society. If it is within your ability, may we ask that you make a financial contribution to help see your AES through these unprecedented times?”

Since the launch of the campaign, numerous individuals have renewed their memberships, choosing in some cases to extend their membership by several years as an investment in the Society’s future. Campaign-specific contributions ranging from $5 to $4,500 USD have been made, totaling over $23,000 USD. The AES  is extremely grateful for all contributions,” said Roginska.

Audio Engineering Society members and partners have a unique perspective on the benefits the Society brings to individuals for career advancement and to the audio industry as a whole. From the AES’s crucial Standards work, the promotion of audio research, the development of milestone events to education spanning the breadth of audio technology and its application, the Society has led the industry forward for more than 70 years.

Though the AES operates on a lean budget for an organization of its size, its small but dedicated staff and its volunteer leadership are tirelessly working to shepherd the Society through this generation-defining crisis, investigating myriad possible sources of sustaining income while exploring new initiatives to continue its mission and provide timely and relevant member benefits.

Donations may be made on the AES website or via PayPal (send your donation directly to [email protected]). No donation is too small.

As a special thank you, the AES will recognize individuals making contributions of $400 USD with a three-month Sustaining Member status; at $500 USD, contributing individuals will receive sustaining member status through December 2020. As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, donations to AES by U.S. taxpayers are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Individuals and companies can also gift a membership to colleagues or friends facing economic challenges through the AES Gift Membership program.

“Working together, the AES will persevere,” proclaims Roginska. “We appreciate your thoughtful consideration of this request. Visit AES.org to find out more about what the Audio Engineering Society has to offer and for ways that you can Listen, Learn and Connect with audio peers and pros around the world.”
