Geir Kristoffersen started his interest in sound in a church youth choir late 1970´s. He studied Electronics at the Trondheim Institute of Technology (Engineering degree) and Acoustics at the Norwegian Institute of Technology, he joined AES as Student Member in 1984.
After several years doing sound design at The Norwegian Theatre, Geir joined Sony Nordic as Pro Audio Product Manager in 1992. He moved to Sony Europe as product manager for wireless microphones and BC radio products in 1996. Geir represented Sony Corp on international standards bodies futureproofing the EN300422 for the current frequency auctioning.
Geir worked with the Sony team to set factory policy and deliver the best solutions for global customer needs, radio frequency standardizations and working with customers to optimize their workflow.
In 2001 Geir was hired by Park Air Systems, as product manager for VCCS (ATC systems) where he among others proposed coordination of audio protocols, enabling routing of audio from control centers through complex national routing to digital radios on mountain tops.
In 2009 Geir was asked to lead the build-up of the COWI acoustic department in Oslo. Seeing the group developed into a strong unit, Geir decided in 2018 to switch from management to focus on technical design, and has since then served as a consultant at COWI focusing on AVL, electroacoustics and IT.
In 2010 the Norwegian section of AES was re-established. Geir was asked to be its inaugural chairman. Geir is its current Chairman and the facilitator of an AES hosted bi-weekly virtual industry gathering on Zoom. As a founding member of the Nordic Sound Symposium in 2014, he was invited to the board and serves as its secretary and chair of the symposium program committee. At the 2018 symposium Geir was awarded the prestigious "The Soundman" award.
In his free time Geir does sound engineering for churches. Hence, in 2020 Geir had to learn about the practicalities about streaming as everybody else.
